Deacon Willie Young Jr was born on April 24, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Willie Young, Sr. and Shaddie Young. Willie received his education in South Carolina. Willie traveled to several states and later settled in New York City where he met and married Sylvia Bruton(Jordan) and from that union 2 children were born, Sharnett and Willie Young III and 3 stepchildren were blessed to gain Willie as a stepfather (Maurice Bruton, Montrez Bruton & Bryon Stewart). Willie was employed for over 30 years and retired from University Hospital as a Storekeeper II. Willie suddenly and peacefully departed his life on Wednesday, May 5, 2020. Willie married Delphia (Delores) Mitchell June 13, 1987. Willie & Delores was married for 32 years. Delores was a devoted and loving wife and caregiver. Willie had a stroke in 2012 and Delores never wavered with the love and support for Willie helping him mentally and physically get through such a life changing event, Willie began walking with the assistance of a walker and his Physical Therapist Karen not long before his death. Willie would often say he will be driving one day in the future and with his confidence we believed it would happen one day. Willie devoted his life to several organizations. Willie was a loyal member of New Hope Baptist Church where he chaired the AA meetings, was the Chairman of the Deacon Board, President of the Men’s Fellowship, served on the Usher Board, sang on the Male Chorus, and helped wherever he was needed in the church. He was a Mason with the Order of the Easter Star St Johns Lodge # 24. Willie enjoyed spending time with family, going to church, watching westerns, fishing, reading his bible, and assisting friends, family when needed. Preceding him in death is mother; Shaddie Young, father; Willie Young, Sr. , 2 sisters; Loretta Wilson & Louise Young, one brother; Anthony Young, stepsons; Maurice Bruton & Bryon Stewart. Willie leaves to mourn: his Loving and Devoted wife; Delphia, Children; Sharnett Young & Willie Young III, stepdaughter; Montrez Bruton, 4 brothers; Deacon Jackson Young, John Young, Reginald Young, and Sidney Young, 3 sisters; Eva Zimmerman (Robert Robinson), Carolyn Maloney & Ruth (Retha)Young, grandchildren; Sterling Bruton, Sean Young, Taurus Bruton, Michael Joseph (Logan Joseph), Dewan Reaves, Jayana Young, step grandchildren; Thaleya Webb and Kevin Rockwell, 3 greatgrandchildren ; Khiyon & Amoni’ Young and Kayeleb Perea -Joseph a host of nieces and nephews, uncles, cousins and friends and his devoted friend Walter Wellington.
