July 16, 1961 - February 6, 2021
Vernee’ Marie Carter-White, the eldest child of Mary E. Simpson-Carter and the late Vance Carter Sr. was born on July 16, 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended a series of private schools including St. Ambrose, All Saints as well as Archbishop Keough. She then went on to win a scholarship to Peabody Institute for opera lessons where she perfected her voice and craft of music. She later graduated from Northwestern High School and continued her extensive education at Coppin, Loyola and Morgan State University. Vernee’ was raised Catholic, but she had an insatiable appetite for knowledge. She was a wealth of information and anyone who came in contact with Vernee’ fell in love with her. Early on she became known for her beautiful singing voice. You could always catch Vernee’ singing an opera song or a Chaka Khan melody. When not singing she always had a positive and nurturing word for her children, siblings and all their friends. To Vernee’ her family was everything. She would spend hours talking to her baby brother and only sister, just pouring into each other and bouncing ideas about any and everything. Vernee’ always stressed the importance of family. Living by the mantra “we all we got” she made sure we all had each other’s backs. Vernee’ married Anthony Carr Sr. respectively, this union was blessed with two children, one son Anthony Carr and one daughter Verseana Carr(who blessed her with two granddaughters Sabrea and Samari). She Later went on to marry Dana White Sr. respectively, this union was blessed with four children. Three boys Amon White(who preceded her in death), Aaron white, Angelo White (who blessed her with four grandchildren, Trinity, Julian, Jaden, and Jodie) one daughter Valee’na White and one stepson Dana White Jr.(who preceded her in death and blessed her with two grandchildren Berkeley and Hudson). Her children and grandchildren were her world. A woman ahead of her time Vernee’ was Extremely talented and multi-faceted. Vernee’ ran cross country, won many talent shows, participated in beauty pageants, sold the Dick Gregory Diet, managed the night club Electric Eye and managed Odell’s night club where she was an exceptional dancer. Vernee’ had immaculate taste with a thirst for high fashion. An avid shopper, Vernee’ was a shopping connoisseur. She was known to show up and show out, always commanding a room and shutting it down! She was flawless. She was also an interior designer, but her most cherishable Gift, Vernee’ had a voice from heaven. She PASSIONATELY LOVED music. A Singer, Songwriter, Composer and Producer, known as Viva(the diva) Vernee’ performed at the Arena Players and many night clubs throughout the city. Vernee’ passed her love for music down to her children and would have them traveling to shows before making their own sounds. She was a devoted mom of six, a dedicated LPN for thirteen years, then later worked in a group home where she mentored troubled teens until she was injured. After that Vernee’ began her Paralegal studies and eventually went on to work at Legal Aid. “Mimi” as she was affectionately known by her close family, later moved in with her daughter to help care for and raise her grandchildren. She also looked after her nieces, nephews, and in recent years great nieces. Mimi shared a special bond with her baby Theory. Mimi absolutely adored children and helping people in any way she could. Aunt Vernee’s house was the “fun house” always filled with love, hot plates and tons of snacks. It was always a safe space. Vernee’ really enjoyed traveling. She loved having free time to “catch up on her shows” so she could call Cynthia and they’d reenact the whole thing over while bursting into that big warm laugh she always had after a foolish or funny moment. She loved checking in on her son Anthony and daughter Valee’na to check the weather or to see if they ate today and took their vitamins. She loved talking to her brother Omar about everything or just to sit on the phone while he watched tv and talk about all their grand ideas. She loved calling Seana from in the house to see if she watched the movie she suggested then unknowingly telling her the whole thing, or just calling to ask “did you all eat” & what they wanted for dinner. Or calling Angelo and Aaron to make sure they were ok and talk about something new she found out. She loved talking to her family about pretty much any and everything whether you wanted to hear it or not, you needed to hear it. Vernee’ loved to keep a belly full. She found joy in cooking for people, it was her thing. She loved to read and just study. Whether it be about herbs, people, lyrics, the world or just breaking down the meanings of books. Vernee’ just always had this "I need to know because I need to know" mentality. She loved tranquility, peace, the beach and a beautiful view. She loved visiting her daughter in Florida and going to Disney world with her girls. She cherished road trips with her kids and grandkids, big family trips and having a “first moment” with “the babies” even if they weren’t babies anymore, they will always be her babies. There will never be enough words to express what an amazing, outgoing, loving, caring, knowledgeable, earthy, sweet, adorable, daughter, mom, sister, cousin, niece, aunt and friend Vernee' was. She will always be missed but as she would say “Forever in our hearts”. Her legacy and energy will live on for many moons to come. After an amazing life she entered eternal rest on February 6, 2021. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her mother Mary Carter-Flight, her loving brothers and sister, Vance, Antonio, Cynthia (Jomo) and Omar (Tracey); Her devoted children Anthony, Verseana, Aaron, Angelo and Valee’na, her loving grandchildren Sabrea, Samari, Trinity, Julian, Jaden and Jodi as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and friends that became family (framily).
