August 5, 1951 - April 21, 2021
Michael Anthony Harris was the second of nine children born to Winston and Ruth Harris, on August 5, 1951 in Belfield Pen, St. Mary, a village in the northeast section of Jamaica. The family moved to the city of Kingston shortly thereafter, where he attended Marverly Elementary School. He attended Grantham College and afterwards Extra Mural college. He continued his pursuit to improve his skills by becoming an apprentice mechanic at the Public Works Department while doing day release classes at St. Andrew’s Technical School. After completing his apprenticeship, he worked for the Jamaican Government until a back injury sidelined him. He then transferred to Jamaica Customs and worked there for a number of years. Refusing to be sucked into the corruption he observed there, he walked away and became a delivery driver, which he did until he migrated to the United States of America. As a child he attended the Tower Hill Missionary Church, where he received Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. As a young adult, he became drawn to Kingston Youth for Christ, part of Jamaica Youth for Christ, an island-wide ministry that evangelized jamaica spreading the love of Christ to young people. He loved to sing and had a rich bass voice, so it ws no surprise that when Youth for Christ launched its first vocal group known as the YFC Chorale, he was on eof the foundation members. This became his life and he dedicated himself to this ministry travelling the island for years in outreach missions and doing concerts. He was also involved in taking singing groups to Grand Cayman Island and other Caribbean islands. For the past number of years, he was plagued by various illnesses, Fially on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 God saw fit to release him from his sufferings.
