February 5, 1920 - May 25, 2020
Mary Geneva Boardley, as we know her was actually born; Haily Geneva Butts. She did not like the name Haily so she changed it to Mary. She was born on February 5, 1920 to the late John and Ida Butts on Old Fredrick Road, in Woodlawn Maryland. She departed this life on May 25, 2020 after a brief illness. Mary received her education in Baltimore County Schools. She worked as a domestic worker providing care to many families. Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Full Gospel Tabernacle when she was fourteen years old. She was the wife of the late Russell Boardley. Mary loved The Lord! She loved reading the Word daily. Mary was very talented. She wrote many seasonal plays for church events and fund raisers. She also loved to sing. She had a lovely voice that encouraged and calmed your heart in the sweetest way. You could hear her singing at church, in her room, in the community center and everywhere she went. On her 100th birthday she blessed us all with a rendition of, “I Trust In God,” not just a song but what she truly exemplified everyday of her life. She would pray all the time. She would often visit others where she resided to pray for them and encourage them in The Lord. She also loved to crochet. She crocheted blankets, hats, shawls and scarves for everyone, from the youngest members of our family to the oldest. Mary loved to walk and believed that walking along with, no smoking, no drinking and no fooling around with men was the result of her long life. She shared this message with everyone she met. Mary was truly a friend and loved by all. She would get visits, cards and gifts all the time from families she had cared for and lovingly assisted in raising many of their children. Many reside in other states but would keep in contact with her faithfully. Their pictures were displayed in her room along with her family pictures. She had two close friends over the years that she loved and adored, Jean Reincke and William (Jay) Braden. Mary leaves to carry on her legacy five nieces, Yvonne Green, Anita Houston, Marilyn Moore, Norma Butts and Catherine Johnson along with (great), (great-great) and (great-great-great) nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Mary Geneva Boardley is greatly loved and missed! Her memories and her legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her and loved her.
