January 7, 1939 - July 11, 2020
Lucy Bettie Davis-Thorpe, affectionately known as Moot, by family, daughter of the late James Edward Davis and Mary Elizabeth Wilson-Davis, was born on January 7,1939 in Henderson, North Carolina. God saw her getting weary and called her home on Saturday, July 11, 2020. Lucy was educated in the Henderson, NC school system, where she attended Henderson Institute. At an early age she was baptized and became a member of Allen Chapel Baptist Church in North Carolina. She was united in holy matrimony in 1959 to Howard Lee Thorpe and she was blessed with 6 children. Lucy relocated to Rockland County, NY in 1966, residing in Spring Valley and Nanuet respectively; until moving to Baltimore, MD to live with her daughter, Jennifer in 2016. She was employed as an upholstery worker and later as a car delivery person. However, her most rewarding work was being a mother and grandmother. Lucy loved family and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She had a kind and loving heart and even with the challenges she faced, Lucy couldn't say no to offering a hand to those in need and sharing her motherly love. You might say she was the neighborhood Nana, which she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and others who held her dear. Lucy enjoyed gardening and displaying her culinary skills, cooking and baking. She always had something ready and prepared to eat. Lucy was always ready to show her competitiveness and beat you in a game of cards, preferable spades or bid whist, with love of course. She also enjoyed watching soap operas like the Young and The Restless and The Have and The Have Nots. Lucy always kept up with the latest hairstyles and hair color trends. She loved to laugh and have a good time. Lucy was predeceased by her brothers, James Thomas “Jerry” Alston, Willie Heyward Alston, sisters Delores Annette Alston - Wright, Rachael B. Tillerson, grandson Bobby and great-grandson Jhamier. She leaves to cherish her memory, 6 children, James Thomas Thorpe (Tangy), of Paterson, NJ, Jennifer Thea Thorpe of Baltimore, MD, Corinna Ann Thorpe of Haverstraw, NY, Lee Vernon Thorpe (Natalie) of Spring Valley, NY, Lorenzo Thorpe of Cornwall, NY, Lemar Thorpe (Angela) of Spring Valley, NY, 18 grandchildren, where she raised 3 of them as her own, Shakena Mabry of Owings Mills, MD, Lemar Thorpe Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and Bianca Thorpe of Spring Valley, NY, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, along with a dear friend, who was like a sister, Virginia (Jenny) Jeanty of Spring Valley, NY.
