Mrs. Lillie Mae Peterson, Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lillie Mae Peterson, daughter of the late Joseph and Daisy Johnson, was born on January 20, 1936 in Sumpter, South Carolina. On Monday, February 14, 2022, God touched her hand and called her home to rest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Peterson; three sisters, Mabel, Ruth and Estelle; one daughter, Joyce Smith and one son, Stanley Peterson. Mae, as she was affectionally known by all, moved to Baltimore, Maryland with her family at an early age. She completed her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She worked many jobs over the years to support her family, but she was most proud of her employment with the Baltimore City Public School System. She loved working with children and retired after 40 years of service. She met and married, Ernest “Freckles” Peterson. From this union, came six children whom stole her heart, Joyce, Gwendolyn, Stanley, Bernadette, Brian (Choke) and Sherene (Niecy). At an early age, Mae accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She instilled in her children about faith and belief. She introduced her children to church at Elder Green’s and later became a dedicated member of the Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church. She was a faithful member of the Usher’s Ministry until her health prevented her from attending. She made sure her children and grandchildren made God a priority and instilled in them the importance of faith and church. Mae lived an abundant and fulfilling life because of her overwhelming love for her family and friends. She enjoyed shopping, frequenting Value City and Baines supermarket. She loved to travel including going to Myrtle Beach, dining out, spending time with her family and chatting on the phone with her good girlfriends. She especially loved going to cabarets, and attending the legendary Royale along with her sisters to dance, sing and see famous African American entertainers. She was truly loved by many for her sense of humor, love and generosity. She will be missed and forever in our hearts. For now, we will celebrate and let Mae rest; although we loved her, God loved her best. She leaves to cherish her most memorable memories: three daughters, Gwendolyn (William), Bernadette and Sherene; one son, Brian (Sherry); one sister, Barbara (Tony); one uncle, Richard; four sisters-in-law, Helen, Naomi, Irene and Gloria; ten grandchildren, Eric (Adrianne), Antonio, Alyscia, Sha’Pell (James), Leatrice (Purnell), Ry’Jai, Justin, Justice, Makayla and Makiah; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; five nephews, Robert (Alberta), DeAngelo (Nina), Reginald J. (Tubby), Reginald E. (Beaver) and Tony; three nieces, Renee (James), Danielle (Precious) and Alycia (Muffin); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends that she loved dearly.
