Mrs. Jonnie Mae Brown, Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jonnie Mae Womack Brown, 76-year-old native of Baltimore, Maryland, beloved daughter of the late Ark Lee Womack and Ophelia Truesdale Womack, was born on June 11, 1945. She departed this life on earth, and peacefully took a late-night flight into heaven on February 6, 2022, after a brief illness. Jonnie received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools. Jonnie was introduced to the Lord at an early age. She was a faithful member of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter, where she devoted her time and service. Along with the help of one of her best friends, Makini Henson, she loved preparing the church for service. Jonnie began working at Mount Washington Children's Hospital for a short time, where she developed a love for children. She later became a licensed Child Care Provider and started her own home day care. She loved volunteering at Govans Elementary School where she developed special bonds with the children. She also partnered with one of her best friends, Cynthia Martin, as a Girl Scout Leader, where lasting memories were created. Jonnie’s last job before retiring was as a Cashier at State Center Café where she developed many relationships. Jonnie was affectionately known as “DOLL”, Ma, Grand-ma, GG, Aunt Doll and Mrs. Brown. Jonnie met the love of her life, James Thomas Brown (Pete), in 1971. They were united in holy matrimony in 1983 and out of this union two children were born, Renee Antoinette Brown and April Joy Brown. She loved her husband and children. Jonnie was truly a dedicated family woman. She was known for her annual Christmas parties with her family. If you attended the party, you were sure to leave with a thoughtful gift. Shopping for the gifts was the highlight of her year. Jonnie loved to play bingo, watch westerns, soap operas and the Game Show Network. In her later years what brought Jonnie the most joy was spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Joretha Simms and three brothers, Ark Lee Womack Jr., Richard Womack and Albert Womack. Jonnie leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters Renee Antoinette Brown and April Joy Brown, her grandchildren Derek Joshua Dunlap and Laila Skye Miller, her great-grandchildren Karson, Jayden and Bre’Asiyah, one stepdaughter Trena Fields-Williams and her children Tynesha, Tayonna and Lauren, one dear sister Lillian Coleman, one brother-in-law Ronald C. Brown, two best friends Makini Henson and Cynthia Martin and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. All who knew Jonnie can attest to her sassy, down to earth, no nonsense but kindhearted demeanor.
