Mr. Edward Lamont Banks,
July 23, 1948 - November 3, 2020
Edward Lamont Banks (Stymie) was born on July 23, 1948 in Baltimore Maryland to Letitia Higginbotham and George Banks. He quietly departed this life on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Edward received his education in Towson and Baltimore City. He attended Carver and Winston Elementary, Woodbourne Jr. High, and graduated from Towson Senior High in 1967. In 1967, Edward began formal training at Timonium Racetrack, raising thoroughbred horses. In April of 1968, he was drafted into The United States Army where he served for two years. Upon his return he spent his next 6 years at the racetrack as a stableman, which he loved dearly. Edward decided to change career paths and in 1976, he worked for the State of Maryland as a Special Police Officer until 1983. In 1983 he decided to resume his passion for horses and returned to the Racetrack until 2005. In 2005 he began his career at Mercy Medical Center as a Security Officer until his health began to fail in 2019. Edward was a proud member of The Pride of Towson Elks #842. He also was a member of Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church and sang on the Men’s Gospel Choir. He enjoyed horse racing, football, basketball, playing pool and playing cards with his friends.He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his giving heart and his affectionate smile. Edward leaves to cherish his memory: Daughter; Natarsha Banks, grandchildren, Jada Holmes and Jaden Johnson, Brother Harold Dett (Aurelia) and Sisters Katherine Banks and Connie Oakley. Nieces Kia Banks, Kim Harris, Nephews; Charles Dett, Michael Dett, Lonnie Fuller Jr, and Jeffrey Oakley and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Letitia Higginbotham and George Banks, stepmother Carrie Banks and Brother Robert Banks.
