Bertha, known better to many as “Bert, Ms. Bert or Grandma”, was a loved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and so much more. Growing up in Waterbury, on Bishop Street, she was well known, loved and respected. As the baby of 17 children you know she was protected but also held her own. She obtained her education in the Waterbury school system but once relocating to MD, went back to school and obtained her diploma from Dunbar High School. She married James Jackson in 1987 and had many fun loving years together. Bert was a hell raiser that took no crap and lived life to the fullest but years later gave her life to christ being a devoted member of Har Sinai and El Bethel Prayer Tabernacle. She always provided support and love for her family. Through her, the family knows what resilience, sacrifice and perseverance truly look like. A woman of many talents, Bert was a hairstylist, CNA/GNA at Church Home, Johns Hopkins and Good Samaritan Hospital. She also provided home care and was a school aide in her later years spreading her grandmotherly love to the children and staff at City Springs Elementary. Bert was a longstanding resident of Perkins Homes for more than 30 years and for many years was the Tenant Counsel President going above and beyond for the residents in the community that she never wanted to part from. She loved going crabbing and fishing, traveling the world, attending church convencation, weekends at the flea markets, being out in the yards gardening, throwing cookouts for anyone hungry to eat but most of all she did what she loved more than anything spending time with her family and making memories. Bertha will be welcomed by the angels gone before her, her parents Veney and Clayton, her husband James Jackson, son Brian McCormick, 15 brothers and sisters, her companion Charlie and other family and friends. She leaves to mourn her sister Elese Jones of Waterbury, CT, her children Ronald McCormick, Elvira McCormick, Tina Jackson-Wallace (Son-In-Law Gary Wallace Jr.), Alvin Jackson, Sheila, James, Tyrone, Yolanda Jackson & her nephew that was more like a son Charlton McCormick. Grandchildren Shamika, Emmanuel, Marques, Gary, Shaylinn, Deandre, & Kelly, Great-Grandchildren Shayla, Navi, Messiah, Machi, Calib, Noah and Nori. Two Nieces whom she loved dearly Lori and Jade of Waterbury, CT., Tavon Rose her godson, Grace Homer whom she shared a sisterly bond with and a host of many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
