Ms. Bertha Elizabeth Anderson

Bertha Elizabeth Anderson was born on August 28, 1934 to Tom Ashton Anderson and Channie Ann Anderson (Nee) in Nottoway County, Virginia where she was also educated. In the late 1960s Bertha started the next chapter of her life in Baltimore, Maryland. During that time, she would start her career with the United States Postal Service where she would later retire after 32 years. Bertha united with Cornerstone Church under the leadership of the late Rev. I. Logan Kearse. While a devoted steward at Cornerstone Church she faithfully served on the usher board in many roles to include secretary and president. In the early 1980s Bertha, joined New Psalmist Baptist Church under the tutelage of Bishop Walter S. Thomas, Sr. She loved her pastor and often referred to Bishop Thomas as “My Bishop”. At New Psalmist she continued her love for ushering and served on the usher board. Every Sunday she could be found at the 7:15 and 9:30 services. She was a student of the word and enjoyed attending midday Bible Class. Bertha enjoyed shopping, fine dining, traveling, going to Sight and Sound to see the Bibles Stories, but most of all she loved baking cakes and pies. She loved her family especially her nieces, her church family and friends. Bertha was preceded in death by parents Tom and Channie Anderson, one brother Thomas Anderson, sisters Rosa Anderson and Nancy Delaine and her son Charles Anderson. She leaves to cherish her memory, sister Fannie Fountain, brother Rev. Robert L. Anderson, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
