October 13, 1939 - December 25, 2021
Ada B. Lloyd, affectionately known as “MaMa” was born October 13, 1939 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina to the late Willie Knight and Annie Bell Hagans -Brown. Ada Lloyd sadly departed life on December 25, 2021 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Ada, also known as “Tootie” by her family, completed her education at the Edgecombe County School District of North Carolina. She met and married Johnny Lloyd, they started their family in North Carolina with the birth of their first child. Ada and Johnny later journeyed to Baltimore City and extended their family with the birth of four additional children. Ada worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital for 40+ years. She always talked about the many friends (doctors, nurses, etc) that she met there and most importantly the care she gave to all patients. Before her retirement she worked as a care coordinator in the IV Infusion Center. She officially retired on November 1, 2004. But of course, she wasn’t done yet!! Taking care of family was her biggest task, and she loved every bit of it. Provider, comforter, shoulder to cry on, hugger, giver of unconditional love, supporter. Just a few things to name. She would definitely set you straight, sternly, but always with love. Mama, the matriarch of the family, was a phenomenal woman. She instilled in all her children and grandchildren the importance of family, respect, and love. Affectionately known throughout the neighborhood, her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay or a hot meal. Ada loved the Lord! She was a praying woman, her family always felt comfort knowing she kept them in prayer. Worshipping was one of her favorite things to do. Any function at church, there was no question she was there. At the age of 82 she would still drive herself to church. She always said she “wasn’t waiting for family to drive her anywhere”. Ada will be missed tremendously, especially her late-night calls to her granddaughters Tranae and Ebony to catch up on the latest gossip. She was known for commenting on everyone’s Facebook posts, watching the Ravens play on Sunday, and babysitting her granddaughter, Carter. Ada was preceded in death by her mother Annie Bell Brown, husband Johnny Lloyd, Sr., sons Johnny Jr. and Gregory Lloyd, grandsons William and Johnny Lloyd III, and brother Charles Knight. She leaves to cherish loving memories... daughters: Cookie and Kim Lloyd, and Varshay Leak; sons: James and Donald Lloyd (Della); grandchildren: Lee, Lakia, Andre, Ebony, Mia, Tranae, Kamuri, Darius, Joy, and Carter; great-grandchildren: Tyrea, Darquell, LeTray, Brashae, Darryl, Taliyah, Diamond, Anthony, Jalen, Zuri, Aameer, Kamdun, Kamuri Jr., Zaina, Nevin, Dareon, and Darius Jr.; great-great grandchildren: Deshaun and Charm; God-daughter Shervonda; sisters: Ernestine, Mary-Ann, Patricia, and Lois; brothers: Roy and Ricky; devoted friends David (recently departed) and Willie. She also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who she loved dearly.
